How Do Ozone Sterilization Systems Work?
Ozone Sterilization Systems in Whirlpool Bathtubs, Steam Showers, and other Spa products are well marketed features because of their self-cleaning efficiency. You’ve probably noticed more Spa products incorporating Ozone Sterilization Systems as a hot feature.
But, the question often remains how do Ozone Sterilization Systems work? Let’s take a look at how Ozone Sterilization System’s works.
You probably remember in science class discussing atoms and molecules. The oxygen molecule (O2) has two atoms while the ozone molecule (O3) has three oxygen atoms joined together. Ozone is a colorless gas with a strong odor found in our atmosphere. A natural result of electrical thunder storms, ozone leaves the air smelling fresh after a good storm.
Ozone Sterilization Systems work by breaking down the cell wall of an atypical organism (e.g. odors, bacteria, mold, viruses, toxins, fungi) through a process known as oxidation. In this oxidation process, the additional oxygen atom in ozone breaks away, attaches, and destroys the atypical organism. Ozone is more effective than chlorine, used frequently in pools and spas, in killing bacteria, viruses, and so forth.
Ozone Sterilization Systems are used by numerous industries for various functions from sterilizing beverages to deodorizing factories. Some of the industries using Ozone Sterilization Systems today include:
- Air Treatment

I see that almost all of your products have ozone sterilization. That is really a good idea! I hate cleaning with chemicals and this is a great way to get around that. Is there any way to control this or is it automatic? Cleaning stinks! Let me know if there are anymore tips for cleaning these things.

Ozone sterilization is a peace of mind maker. I really do like this feature on my steam shower. It is just one of those things that makes ya sleep a little better knowing that it's there. The funny thing is that I cant even tell that it's working maybe just a little hummm. Just because I'm paranoid I still like to clean the whirlpool tub every now and then.

Ozone sterilization is a way to keep my shower from building up harmful bacteria. I agree with Angela it is peace of mind to the max. I hate cleaning and the only reason I let Jay get the Spaceship steam shower is because it doesn't need much cleaning.

I like this! My mother always warned me of invisible bacteria. It is a desirable way to keep that stuff out of my tub. There are also home size ozone sterilization systems.

Very informative! This has been great to see exactly how the ozone sterilization works. My wife has been looking into getting one of the home systems. It would be nice to have on special for the shower too.

Ozone sterilization is what keeps gross things from growing in my shower. I can't stand that tiny stuff that's not visible. I get a peace of mind knowing that it working.

This shower is virtually maintenance free! I thought that there would be more involved. I just wipe it down with a towel about twice a month.

I have taken many a shower in my day. This is the most complete shower experience I've ever had. I like this steam shower so much, I bought one for my Mom and Dad in Phoenix. The ozone sterilization system should make it easy to maintain for the old folks.

That's funny, I didn't realize I even had this feature on my shower. I heard a humming sound after taking a shower one day and thought I blew a speaker. I called one of your reps and he told me what was up. Now that I know about my ozone sterilization I feel better. My shower is cleaned after every use.

I need to just stay in my steam shower to avoid the h1n1 virus aka the swine flu. I heard 625 people died this past week alone.
